Foxconn will increase the number of employees in India to 70,000 people, quadrupling now, in the next two years to assemble iPhone 14 and 15.

Apple is looking to gradually shift production of devices, including iPhones, out of China to reduce the impact of the US-China trade war. At the same time, closures at Chinese factories will likely affect progress. Apple said that the iPhone 14 will be in serious shortage during the year-end shopping period. According to PhoneArena, countries like India, Vietnam and Mexico are places where Apple can set up iPhone factories without having to worry about closure.

Initially, India only produced older models such as iPhone 12, 13 but now Apple has allowed iPhone 14 to be assembled here. The expansion of production in India will help Foxconn meet the increasing demand in this market, as well as enable global exports. According to Reuters , Foxconn has announced that it will quadruple the number of workers at its iPhone factory in India in the next two years, from 17,000 workers to 70,000. Foxconn leaders said that they are speeding up the recruitment plan due to production stagnation in China.

The number of Indian workers will increase to 53,000 people but still much lower than the 300,000 workers working at the Foxconn Zhengzhou factory. Indian officials also asked Apple's suppliers to expand their component manufacturing capabilities in addition to iPhone assembly. Neither Apple nor Foxconn have yet responded to this request. However, with the move to shift production, Apple will find a way for component suppliers to move to India, and at the same time increase its supply chain in this region.

In 2022, Foxconn accounts for 70% of global iPhone production, 15% higher than 2019. In which, Foxconn produces 80% of iPhone 14 and 14 Plus, as well as 100% of iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max. . The remaining 20% of iPhone 14 and 14 Plus are manufactured by Luxshare and Pegatron.
